The Cuckoo’s Calling by J.K. Rowling

July 15, 2013

Late last week the story broke that “debut” mystery novelist Robert Galbraith, author of the well-received The Cuckoo’s Calling,  is in fact J. K. Rowling writing under a secret pseudonym.  The holds queue has exploded to 239, with hold #1 dating only to two days ago on Saturday!  That must be close to a record groundswell.  There’s actually a bit of controversy about this, in part because the fictitious name came with some fictitious bio background that doesn’t apply to Rowling’s own real life.  Here’s one story from NPR.  Thanks to Becky and Karen for ordering a bunch more so quickly last week.  By the way, there is as yet no available audiobook of this. [Update: Actually, Hachette does have an unabridged audio edition coming out September 10.  I will put that on order].

Overdrive had five holds on it this afternoon (Monday, July 15,) and at 6 p.m. had nine holds. So a hold on SIL’s sole ebook copy may be one way to go.

  2. Darren Says:

Yes, and the 5:1 ratio applies to eBooks also.

  3. Marta Murvosh Says:

As of lunchtime Tuesday, the ebook has 23 holds. It looks like our digital readers have caught on. 🙂
