Voices on the Red Carpet: 2011 Audie Award Nominees

March 7, 2011

The Audio Publishers Association recently announced its nominees for the 2011 Audie Award, with winners to be announced May 24th at the Audies Gala in New York, tickets to which are on sale now for only $350-400.

According to the APA’s Web site,

The Audies, …is the premier awards program in the United States recognizing distinction
in audiobooks and spoken word entertainment. Through the Audies award competition, publishers are able to enter titles in various categories for recognition of achievement.

This year’s nominees include productions of some of last year’s bestselling print titles, such as Fall of Giants by Ken Follett, Freedom by Jonathan Franzen, the Reversal by Michael Connelly, Fantasy in Death by J. D. Robb, and the Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest by Stieg Larsson, to name but a few.  The award specifically recognizes solo narration by a male voice and a female voice; genre categories such as thriller, romance, science fiction, suspense, and business/education; multi-voice performances; classics; and package design.  Particularly intriguing to me is the Judges Award Paranormal for “excellence in the creation of an audiobook focused on the paranormal, abridged or unabridged, single or multi-voiced.”
