one of the busiest travel times of the year

December 22, 2010

around the holidays, many hit the road, rails, and air to visit with family and friends or find a sunny, relaxing place to spend their winter break.  for those that can’t travel, reading a good book has that ability to transport.

recently, abc News compiled a list of recommended travel books for gifting during the holidays, but that’s not to say that we can’t borrow them all year ’round.  titles include the Lonely Planet’s “The Travel Book: A Journey Through Every Country in the World,” National Geographic’s “Drives of a Lifetime: 500 of the World’s Most Spectacular Trips,” and Cami Ostman’s “Second Wind: One Woman’s Midlife Quest to Run Seven Marathons on Seven Continents.”

pair any of these titles with our “Frugal Living:  Armchair Travel” booklist and suggestions from Nancy Pearl’s “Book Lust to Go” (also part of the Best Bets collection) for a pretty sweet display.  there is also the ‘Travel Writing’ category on NoveList.  plenty of places to see and experience, even if it’s from the pages of a book.

posting by marin who is not looking forward to her forthcoming 24 hours of flying time and layovers
