more family secrets

December 22, 2010

Kim Edwards hit it big with “The Memory Keeper’s Daughter.”  up next is this January’s “The Lake of Dreams.”  from the publisher’s blurb:

Returning home from Japan to find closure for her father’s unresolved death a decade earlier, Lucy discovers a cache of objects that reveals complex family secrets.

Booklist, LJ, Kirkus, and PW give it somewhat positive reviews, nothing bad, but nothing stellar.  the last couple of sentences of the Booklist review end with:

Once again, Edwards (The Memory Keeper’s Daughter, 2005) has created a memorable cast of easily recognizable characters. As Lucy’s investigation deepens, past and present join to reach a satisfying and thoughtful resolution. This is a powerful story about the influence of history, the importance of our beliefs, and the willingness to embrace them all.

the LJ review mentions that it lacks “the melodramatic sizzle of its predecessor,” but sometimes that’s just fine.  free arc to the first Sno-Isle Libraries employee to comment.
