a debut thriller is receiving praise all around, Erin Kelly’s “The Poison Tree.”  Kelly weaves the tale of Karen who picks up an old flame from prison, Rex, who served a 10 year sentence for murder.  flashback to the early beginnings of their affair, full of passion, excesses, and family secrets.

LJ, PW, Booklist, and Kirkus all give it positive reviews with the Booklist review starting with

A dark, twisted tale of domestic tragedy, Kelly’s debut doesn’t miss a step: character, plot, dialogue, atmosphere, and pacing are right on the money.

and ending with

Intriguing characters, a carefully constructed story that smoothly integrates past and present, and a shocker of an ending make this one special.

the book was released in the U.K. earlier this year with a trailer and a different cover.

Biba is Rex’s sister.  the trailer certainly captures the creepy, innocence lost effect.
