the woman of the moment, Cleopatra

November 5, 2010

Stacy Schiff’s “Cleopatra:  A Life” keeps getting hotter and hotter.  identified at BEA’s spring Shout ‘n’ Share program as a buzz-worthy title and one of USA Today’s 2010 Fall Books, “Cleopatra” has hit the big time with the 11/14 cover of the NYTBR.

the biography garnered positive reviews from the usual professional journal suspects with PW and Kirkus giving it starred reviews.  from the Kirkus review (please note, the first time i’ve ever quoted from the usually surly and indecipherable Kirkus):

Successfully dissipating all the perfume, Schiff finds a remarkably complex woman—brutal and loving, dependent and independent, immensely strong but finally vulnerable.

praise from non-library sources is glowing as well.

arc to the first Sno-Isle Libraries employee to comment.

posting by marin who is completely superficial and loves the cover mostly because it is a departure from the usual Elizabeth Taylor-esque images of Cleopatra

    I’m always up for a great bio…

  2. David Says:

Are the pearls featured on the cover a tribute to June Cleaver?
