a book to pair with your Halloween candy hangover

November 4, 2010

Chuck Hogan and Guillermo del Toro’s “The Fall” is book 2 in the Strain Trilogy.  the premise is no “Twilight” – nothing sparkles and no longing glances, just full-on evil and non-stop action.

released last month, the book was chosen by EW for their Shelf Life Book Club.  Keith Staskiewicz writes of the books:

They aren’t the most literary vampire books ever written, but they have something that most modern bloodsucker fiction lacks: A love of the myth. To me what earns del Toro a spot on my list of Awesomest People Ever—a list I actually keep taped to the head of my bed so that I can get a taste of awesomeness each morning I wake up—is the fact that he transforms his subject matter through his sheer exuberance for it.

both EW and LJ agree that the 2nd book is better than the first.  the LJ verdict:

Fast-paced, action-packed, and even better than the first volume, this fun and scary read is highly recommended for thriller and horror fans. Newcomers to the trilogy will have no trouble following the story line.

so it appears that not having read the 1st is not an impediment to reading the 2nd.  arc to the first Sno-Isle Libraries employee to comment.

I really enjoyed the creepiness of the first book and look forward to reading the second one.

I have a copy of this book I bought while on vacation which I’d like to give away to anyone who doesn’t want to wait for a hold. I was going to donate, but then spilled water on it before do that, so now it’s up for grabs.
