PNBA tradeshow

October 13, 2010

Last week, I attended the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association fall tradeshow in Portland.  Independent booksellers were the main attendees.

Thursday was a day for educational sessions.  I learned about best authors of the northwest, bookblogging, booktalking and intellectual freedom issues before the Supreme Court. I also heard from authors, many of which were debuting their first book.

The rest of the weekend was spent listening to authors and visiting the exhibit floor. Some of the major authors speaking were:

Bonny Becker, Bedtime  for bear, Ivan Doig, Work song, Jonathan Evison, West of here, Nancy Pearl, Book lusts to go, Steven Johnson, Where good ideas come from, Ingrid Law, Scrumble, Darl Marlantes, Matterhorn and David Wiesner, Art and Max.

I really enjoyed listening to all the authors.  I came back with renewed enthusiam for my job.

I’ve heard Ivan Doig speak before and was very impressed. He is so serious about his writing; every dash and comma are carefully thought out – not to mention word choices. I’m glad you got to hear him speak.
