Read like the rich

June 14, 2010

Having trouble trying to decide what to read this summer?  Finding the myriads of  summer book lists just too passé?

The Wall Street Journal posted that J.P. Morgan Private Bank has sent out their annual Summer Reading List each June to its clients.  They have compiled these lists for the last eleven years.

To create the list, JPM bankers from around the world submitted more than 450 nonfiction books for consideration. A committee then chose the top 10, based on each tome’s ability to “capture the essence of our clients’ personal and professional lives.”

Granted, the wealthy are leary of any advice from their private bankers these days. Still, the Summer Reading list has become so popular with clients that the bank is doing a winter reading list as well.

Some of the books included in the list:

  • Life is what you make it: find your own path to fulfillment by Peter Buffett.
  • The Facebook effect: the inside story of the company that is connecting the world by David Kirkpatrick
  • Fine wines: the best vintages since 1900 by Michel Dovaz.

Maybe sitting in a lawn chair this summer during a staycation won’t seem so bad if you can read what the wealthy are enjoying.
