Dick Francis 1920-2010

Dick Francis, author of more than 40 books died on Sunday, he was 89.   Francis who had many careers, Air Force pilot during WWII, champion jockey, and journalist began writing mystery novels at the request of his wife who was worried about the state of their finances.  His first novel, Dead Cert (1962) was a bestseller and Francis would continue to produce a new novel each year through the next four decades.

    i devoured all dick francis books in h.s. and college, my favorite being “the danger.” francis not only tapped into my love for all things equine, but also created richly developed, very human characters.
