magazine ad sales plummeting

remember when Conde Nast pulled the plug on Gourmet magazine last October?  The magazine publishing industry is to say the least volatile with mags appearing and disappearing regularly, but even so I thought Gourmet was safe from the ax.

Publishers Information Bureau has released ad sales revenues for October – December 2009 and the numbers are bleak. Are you curious about the health of your favorite magazine?

Magazine Death Pool succinctly summarizes the biggest losers and suggests that ad sales people will soon be extinct.  If things continue you’re bound to see more and more magazines failing, so it may be time to start thinking about how some of the real estate devoted to shelving magazines might be repurposed.
