RIP Kirkus Reviews, 1933 – 2009

December 10, 2009

The New York Times arts blog reports today that Kirkus Reviews is closing.  No date is given for the final issue.  The owner, Nielsen Business Media, is closing Kirkus and its other trade publication, Editor & Publisher.  No word on whether the Kirkus online site will continue, or whether another buyer will step up.

Kirkus Reviews was founded in 1933 by Virginia Kirkus.  Published bi-weekly, it reviews over 5,000 titles each year.   Another harbinger of the demise of the publishing industry?
