The Reading List 2008

Established in 2007 by the CODES section of RUSA, The Reading List Council seeks to highlight outstanding genre fiction that merits special attention by general adult readers and the librarians who work with them.

The Council, which consists of ten librarians who are experts in readers’ advisory and collection development, select books in eight different categories: adrenaline titles which include suspense, thrillers, and action adventure; Fantasy; Historical Fiction; Horror; Mystery; Romance; Science Fiction; and Women’s Fiction. This inaugural juried list features established voices and debut novelists and suggests titles that will thrill avid fans and entice new readers.

Awards: PNBA Book Awards Winners

The winners of the Pacific Northwest Booksellers Association’s 2008 Book Awards are:

A committee of independent booksellers from Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Alaska made the selection from nearly 200 nominees, all of which were written by Northwest authors and published in 2007. The association will celebrate the authors at a reception for members at the Heathman Hotel in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, March 29.

If a movie is based on a book then…

We should own the DVD right?  Well the answer is maybe, check out this list  of 8 kick-ass movies  based on books that I discovered on Librarian and Information Science News.  Featuring some very witty writing and some weird trivia including the fact that the John McClain character made famous by Bruce Willis was originally played by Frank Sinatra in a movie called The Detective.    You might also want to look at their take on animated films.
