and look for your old 8 track player, at least if you’re a fan of Cheap Trick. As a promotional gimmick CT is releasing their latest album titled, “The Latest” as an 8 track tape. Wired has a great post about other weird ways music is being marketed these days.
My favorite is the Limited Edition Kosher chicken soup.
What’s yours?

Are you serious? Where can one get an 8-track player today? Recently while at my parents’ house, we pulled out the old Peter Frampton 8-track and popped it in their now-antique stereo. The tape disintegrated as we attempted to relive old times. It fell apart just like my old body is beginning to! Sad.

I have a cool 6 or 7 CD set from Rhino of soul hits of the 70’s — and it’s packaged to look like a rack full of 8-tracks. As a matter of fact, since this weekend there’s a music festival in Anacortes, that box is part of the window display I assembled for the bookstore there.

My favorite is Mogwai’s “Tracy” Music Box, because I think metalworking is neat. That’s the only one that floats my boat, unless the soup is really, really good.

My friend Tom has an 8-track that he plugs into his lighter in his van for driving music…
@Kathleen – you might be able to find one at a junk shop.
@David – I saw that display! I’m going to that music festival! Day one was fantastic. I’ll have to go back and look at that display again now.
I don’t really have a favorite promo, but I like the fact that many bands are going back to the vinyl package as art concept.
