we are all shallow when it comes to covers…

admit it. now that that’s out of the way, the Los Angeles Times book blog explores the attempts of mainstreaming the covers for literary fiction. frankly, i’d be worried about false advertising. when i booktalked to teens in the schools, i always worried about creating a booktalk that didn’t truly represent the book, creating false hopes which led to a reading of the first couple of pages and then rejection not only of the book, but also my taste and credibility. sure, the covers of some classics could use a little make-over work, but it’s important to stay true to the content.
