over the last week and a-half, there’s been controversy about Shirley Jones’ first book, The Jewel of Medina, about Muhammad and his child bride, Aisha.  apparently, the title was pulled by Random House in fear of retaliation by those who didn’t agree with the book’s message.  last week, Salman Rushdie criticized the move.  Sherry Jones emailed the prologue to the Smart Bitches which you can read here; the posting garnered many comments.

coming this Fall, September 20th to be precise, is Paolini’s newest title Brisingr.  of course, there will be midnight parties and an author tour, but Random House has also launched an online game.  i imagine that we’ll see more of this type of promotion in the future especially considering the interests of the millennials.
